Metering Out Advantage for Multipet Homes
Please note that this is for the original Advantage only. Do not attempt to meter out any of the other formulas because the formula does vary and can be toxic to your pets.
You will need a syringe (without a needle) to ensure you are using the correct amount and a vial to store the extra Advantage in. You can get these things from your vet. Store the extra Advantage in a dry, dark, cool place.
Here is how to break down the dosage by weight:
0.4ml = 0-10 lbs
0.8ml = 11-20 lbs
1.2ml = 21-30 lbs
1.6ml = 31-40 lbs
2.0ml = 41-50 lbs
2.4ml = 51-60 lbs
2.8ml = 61-70 lbs
3.2ml = 71-80 lbs
4.0ml = 80+ lbs
If you prefer to use Frontline, you’re in luck because you can also meter it out. The dosing is different than Advantage, however, and it breaks down like this:
Cats -0.5ml
Dogs 11-22 pounds – 0.67ml
Dogs 23-44 pounds – 1.34ml
Dogs 45-88 pounds – 2.68ml
Dogs 89-132 pounds – 4.0ml
If you are using Frontline Plus, the Plus part is an insect growth regulator. There is actually less of it in the dog version than the cat version, so you can use the dog products on cats, but not the other way around. The dose for this is 0.03ml per pound. This means that a 10 lb dog needs 0.3ml and a 70 lb dog needs 2.1ml.
